Yesterday we got a phone call from Derek's school, he fell off of something (two metal tubes that you can put your arms around and slide down) on the playground, and broke his arm. It happened at about 12:00 and I picked him up shortly after that. I called his Pediatrician and they said to bring him in, only to send us to the hospital for x-rays, then to the orthopedic surgeon in Provo, and finally he was put under general anesthesia to have it set. We were finally done with the whole ordeal at 8:30.
Derek was such a trooper. It was a really bad break, both bones in his arm just above his wrist, luckily it missed the growth plate! He only cried when we had to move him. Todd changed him into the hospital gown, I'm so glad that he was there! Derek was just sobbing and scared,he asked if he was going to die, it broke my heart! He was super tough for his IV, he just took some deep breaths and was fine, he liked seeing the little bit of blood from getting it started (odd-I know, he likes to pick a scab to watch it bleed). He will wear a soft cast for 2 weeks and then the real stuff for about 4. I can't wait until the hard cast is on, I'm so nervous that he will re-injure it. He is doing really well today, he want's to go to school tomorrow, yeah right! He can't even pull up his pants without some help. I think that he wants to show the kids in his class. We feel lucky that it wasn't worse, it is terrible to see someone you love suffer! Having good health really is a blessing!
(Neither of us had our cameras, a sin I know,I will take a picture soon!)

Poor guy!!! I feel so bad for him. It stinks to be injured and in pain when so young. Especially because of all that energy they have!
Of course we are okay, just thought your sneaky commenting was funny.
Funny story--when I was a young teen I broke my growth plate in my wrist. I was helping kids at a birthday party, I was showing them how to pop a balloon. I was trying to plop down on my bum to pop the balloon. The balloon moved and I plopped down on my wrist, so I broke it popping a balloon.
Poor kid, that is so sad that he asked if he was going to die. I am sure he was terrified.
Poor Derek!
Those calls from the school are the *worst*! Did you know Bella broke her arm at school about a week after y'all moved? She told me she was trying an "experiment" on the monkey bars- she wanted to see how far she could jump and still grab on to a bar!
I told her no more monkey bar experiments. :P
oh ouch! That's sucks. Hey, we had so much fun last week! You're family was so so good. I'm excited to get all the pictures done and to see what you think. I should have them done this weekend I hope. You can see a sneak peek on my blog :)
That's so sad, good luck on the recovery!!
Does anybody know where you can buy protective bubbles?
That is no fun and so sad! I know it's innevitable that kids will have accidents but I do not look forward to the day where one of mine gets a broken arm or leg. I'm so thankful it hasn't happened ...yet.
